Today was a full day of exploring. We started out visiting the Wind Cave which is know for both its caves below ground and the wildlife and grasslands above. Unfortunately we weren’t able to enter the caves which were closed, but we saw and felt the wind at the original entrance. We also saw many bison and prairie dogs in the grasslands.

Beautiful flowers everywhere
Since we had such a short time the day before we went back to Mt. Rushmore to visit in the evening. Every night they have a ceremony before they light the tower. It was really special to hear the park ranger talk about why she loves the national parks and what they mean to her. She also shared about her Italian heritage and what it meant to be a first generation American. At the end of the ceremony she called up all the veterans to the stage to thank them for their service and conduct the flag ceremony for the evening. It was very moving and I’m so glad we got to witness it.
