Badlands National Park is full of colorful striated rock. It is described as “bad lands” by the Lakota people and early settlers because of the steep terrain, harsh weather, and little resources in the area. It has a stark kind of beauty. It’s also known for having one of the world’s largest fossil beds. We enjoyed the visitors center, worked on Junior Ranger badges and explored the Door and Window Trails.

We found little footprints in the mud. Maybe the black footed ferret?
We all followed Dave up this steep incline scrambling on our hands and knees.
He then helped us over the lip of the rock.
Whew! We came up the hard way, but we made it!
