Leaving the Badlands we stopped at the famous Wall Drug for coffee and donuts. It’s known for its free ice water for travelers. It also has many shops and photo opportunities. We joked that it’s the original Buccees. 🤪
After our Wall Drug stop we drove to Spokane Creek Campground where we met up with friends of ours from Gulf Breeze and some of their family to camp together for a few days. We had been planning this adventure together for a while, so we were excited to finally meet up with them on this leg of our journey.
We headed into Custer for their 4th of July parade and festivities. Then we visited Mt. Rushmore for a little while. It was fun that some of the presidents were walking around telling us about their lives and signing autographs. We headed back to Custer in the evening for a fun fireworks show!

When we first arrived this was our view. I took a quick picture, then we went back to the car to wait out the rain. When the rain finished it returned to a beautiful day an we were able to explore.
“Thomas Jefferson” told us about his life and funny memories from his school days. He also teased Josh and encouraged him to be a lifelong learner.
Bison sightings and crossings on our way back to Custer for fireworks. It was crazy how close the bison came to the car! Our friends saw one buck at and dent another car, so I’m glad this one only stared at us.
